• Those with garlands that surpass [their] bangles[FNote_141] having engaged in play[FNote_142],
• the youths[FNote_143] go and light is no [more] light[FNote_144].
• "If you play with us at midday[FNote_145]
• in the dappled pleasing shade of the broad-leaved Puṉṉai tree,
• [but] at night are kept with pain inside the unwaning good house
• covered with dried grass, I too will suffer the heavy protection
• of your father", you just say. You
• do not bear even [my] talking of going: "if [you] go,
• I won't live" - if you say so,
• while you are staying behind in the seashore grove,
• standing on the shore as a goddess of the sea
• in the twilight so that [your] cool fragrant fresh garland of blue water-lilies
• comes into swinging, with [your] chaplet full of Ñāḻal so that bees come,
• I, I won't bear returning, as a dancing girl,
• having abandoned my decorations that shone as the image for the Veṟi dance.
