- What [is this], live, friend? When [we] were drawing[FNote_95]
- with the fine pollen from clusters on which bees were humming of the Puṉṉai tree with weakened base that bore the increasing waves with confused[FNote_96] spray,
- when [we] came to see the dunes of young sand fragrant with scent,
- when [we] were playing, united with the companions in a group,
- someone came to join [us], one with a chaplet [and] a garland,
- leaving [his] handled long chariot with [his] attendants,
- [and] had words of praise for [our out-]lined houses,
- [and] he went [back] without having obtained a word in exchange.
- And the ghat doesn't sleep at night,
- along with us whose bangles have become lose on [our] joints,
- being stirred by scandalous [talk] from hot-mouthed women
- from the small hamlets by the seashore grove of the fishermen with pretty nets,
- [our] big shoulders being emaciated by the trouble of difficult affliction,
- upon taking [this] in.
