- If mother knows [it], may she know. If [this] overfull(?)[FNote_37]
- street of gossiping mouths hears [it], may they hear.
- Talking so that they know there is nothing else
- I will look at the god from the curved, whirling river mouth
- [and] give a severe oath to you. In the seashore grove,
- after playing together in the sea with the garlanded companions
- and making little houses and heaping a little boiled rice,
- when we were staying a little, in order to end the suffering [we] suffered[FNote_38],
- someone came near [and] spoke[FNote_39] thus [to us]:
- "O you youthful ladies[FNote_40] with broad soft bamboo shoulders!
- Light is light no [more] and I possess much weariness.
- Having eaten a feast on [this] extension of soft leaves,
- what if [I] just staid in this noisy small home?"
- Upon seeing him, we with faces bowed, joining [our] backs together(?),
- said "these are not suitable for you.
- [It is] food from rich fish that has fallen."
- With a look that meant just me,
- who was among many that moved without standing still,
- so as to scatter [sand] with [their] feet, [with the words] "don't we see
- the ships appear, on which long banners are waving sweetly(?)[FNote_41]?",
- talking, fit [for me] to perish, "shall I stay behind, [o you of] good forehead?",
- looking [at me] while I said "I shall go",
- - it seems even today he is standing before my eye,
- gripping the handle of his long chariot.
