மாடக்கோயில் is the name of the temple.

This is one of the seventy temples built by the Cōḻa King Ceṅkaṇaṉ;

{$} து(ள்)ள மதியுடை மறிதோன்று கையினர்
one who has on his hand a young deer which has an idea to jump up.
இளமதி அணிசடை எந்தையார் இடம்
the place of our father who adorns his caṭai with a crescent.
உ(ள்)ளம் மதி உடையவர் வைகல் ஓங்கிய வளம்மதிதடவிய மாடக் கோயில் (ஏ)
the high Mātākkōyil which rubs the brilliant moon, in Vaikal where people with good heart and mind live.

{$} மெய்யகம் மிளிரும் வெண்ணூலர்
Civaṉ wears a sacred thread which shines on his body.
வேதியர்
one who revealed the Vētam-s.
மைய கண் மலைமகளோடும் வைகு அடம்
the place where he always stays with the daughter of the mountain, who has eyes always coated with collyrium
[[மைஞ்ஞின்ற ஒண்கண் மலை மகள் (appar, tillai tiruviruttuam (1) 5);
(According to Caivaism Civaṉ has no end; so his consort always coats her eyes with collyrium; ladies who have lost their husbands do not do so);
நெய்துடைத்து அடையலர் நேய மாதர்கண், மைதுடைத்து உறை புகும் வயங்கொள் வேலினாய் (Kamparāmāyaṇam, nakarniṅkupaṭalam, 160).]]

to make the people of the world feel happy
வைகல் மேல் திசைச் செய்யகண் வளவன் முன் செய்த கோயிலே
is the temple built long ago by vaḷavaṉ of red eyes, in the western part of vaikal.

{$} க(ண்)ணி அணிமலர் கொடு காலையும் மாலையும் பணி அணி பவர்க்கு அருள் செய்த பான்மையர்
Civaṉ who has the nature of granting his grace, adorning him with flowers both in the morning and evening keeping that as their aim in life, to do service to him.
தணி அணி உமையொடு தாமும் தங்கு இடம்
the place where he stays with Umai who is beautiful by her cool grace;

மணி அணிகிளர் வைகல் மாடக்கோயில்
is Vaikal Māṭakkōyil which is beautiful by gems set in it.

{$} கொம்பு இயல் கோதை முன் அஞ்சக் குஞ்சரத்தும்பி அது உரி செய்த துங்கர் தங்கு இடம்
the place where the eminent Civaṉ who flayed the elephant to frighten the lady who walks like a tender branch, in the past.
வம்பு இயல் சோலை சூழ் வைகல் மேற்றிசைச் செம்பியன் கோச் செங்கணான் செய் கோயிலே
is the temple which was constructed by the Cōḻaṉ Kōcceṇkaṇāṉ on the western side of vaikal which is surrounded by fragrant gardens.

{$} விடம் அடை மிடற்றினர்
Civaṉ in whose neck there is poison
வேத நாவினர்
who chants the vētams.
மடமொழி மலை மகளோடும் வைகு இடம்
the place where he stays with the daughter of the mountain who speaks lisping words.
மடவனம் நடைபயில் வைகல் மாநகர்க் குடதிசை நிலவிய மாடக் கோயிலே
is the māṭakkōyil which is prominent to the west of the great city of vaikal where the young swans initate the gait of women and practise it
[[There are two caiva shrines in this place; that to the west of vaikal is the one built by Kōcceṇkanaṉ.]]

{$} நிறை புனல் பிறையொடு நிலவு நீள்சடை இறையவர் உறைவிடம்
the place where the god Civaṉ who has a long caṭai on which is shrining copious water along with the crescent.
இலங்கு மூ எரி மறையொடு வளர்வு செய்வாணர் வைகலில் திறை உடை நிறை செல்வன் செய்த கோயில்
is the temple built by the cōḻaṉ who had plenty of wealth by getting tributes from vassals, in vaikal where brahmins who maintain the shining three sacrificial fires along with the maṟai (vētam).

{$} எரி சரம் வரி சிலை வளைய ஏவி
Having discharged a burning arrow from the bow fastened with bands.
முன்திரிபுரம் எரிசெய்த செல்வர் சேர்வு இடம்
the place where the god who set ablaze the three cities in the past, dwells.
வரி வளையவர் பயில் வைகல் மேற்றிசை வருமுகில் அணவிய மாடக் கோயிலே
is the māṭakkoyil where the spreading clouds come close to, the the west of vaikal where women wearing bangles having lines are crowding.

{$} மலை அன இருபது தோளினான் வலி தொலைவு செய்து அருள் செய்த சோதியார் இடம்
the place of the light who granted his grace after destroying the strength of the arakkaṉ of twenty shoulders which were as strong as mountain.
மலர் மலி பொழில் அணி வைகல் வாழ்வர்கள் வலம் வரும் மலை அமை மாடக் கோயிலே
is the māṭakkōyil which is in appearance like a mountain and around which the residents of vaikal which is beautified by gardens of abundant flowers, go from left to right.

{$} மாலவன் மலரவன்நேடி மால்கொள மால் எரி ஆகிய வரதர் வைகு இடம்
the place where Civaṉ who grants boons and assumed the form of a big fire, to make Māl and Piramaṉ who is seated in a flower to get bewildered, after searching in vain for him.
மாலை (1) கொடு அணி மறைவாணர் வைகலில் மால் அனமணி அணி மாடக்கோயில்
is the Māṭakkōyil in Vaikal made attractive by sapphires which have the colour of Māl, where brahmins who earn their livelihood by the Vētam-s, adorn Civaṉ with garlands.

{$} மடம் உடையவர்பயில் வைகல் மாநகர் வடமலை அனைய நல்மாடக் கோயிலே
the beautiful māṭakkōyil which is situated in the big city of vaikal and which is like the mēru mountain in the north and where ladies who possess the quality of artlessness are crowding.
கடு உடையவாயினர் கஞ்சிவாயினர் பிடகு உரை பேணிலார் பேணு கோயில் ஆம்
is the temple which is cherished with love by the devotees of Civaṉ who do not hold in esteem the teachings of the piṭakam (buddhist scriptures) and the words of camaṇar who respectively drink gruel and have in their mouths gallnut powder.

{$} மைந்தனது இடம் வைகல் மாடக்கோயிலை
about the māṭakkōyil in vaikal which is the abode of the strong Civaṉ.
சந்து அமர்பொழில் அணி சண்பை ஞானசம்பந்தன தமிழ் கெழு பாடல் பத்து இவை சிந்தை செய்பவர்
who meditate upon the ten verses of Tamiḻ composed by ñāṉacampantaṉ of caṇpai (cikāḻi) which is made beautiful by sandal wood gardens.
சிவலோகம் சேர்வரே
will reach Civalōkam after death.
