Progress Report

  1. First Meeting (15.10.2026): reading of தொல்காப்பியம் சொல்லதிகாரம் வேற்றுமைமயங்கியல் with Cēṉāvaraiyar's commentary, starting at TC_84c, which is found on p.85 of the 1934 edition.
  2. Second Meeting (22.10.2026) [9 attendants: NB, MV, CL, CS, LRNJ, HAW, FJ, SC, Ais]. Reading of TC_85c, which is found on p.86 of the 1934 edition. After a suggestion by CS (= Chezhiyan) concerning the contrasted selections inside TC85c (parag. 4) of "புகழ்தல் பழித்தல் என்னுந் தொடக்கத்தன" on the one hand and "அறுத்தல் குறைத்தன் முதலாயின" on the other hand as being based on a 3-fold distinction made by Cēṉāvaraiyar in TC71c (parag. 5), a link is given to an article by Vincenzo Vergiani, available on the Open Edition wing of the IFP publications: The adoption of Bhartṛhari’s classification of the grammatical object in Cēṉāvaraiyar’s commentary on the Tolkāppiyam.
  3. Third Meeting (29.10.2026)[9 attendants: MV, CL, CS, LRNJ, HAW, FJ, SC, Ais, UM]. We have read TC_86c, which is found on p.87 of the 1934 edition, and continued by reading (incompletely) TC_87c, and having a preliminary look at TC88c. We also visited an Eḻuttatikāram sūtra, namely TE_108i, at THIS LINK, in order to explain the technical terms நிலைமொழி and வருமொழி.
  4. Fourth Meeting (05.11.2026). The plan is to finish reading TC_87c and TC_88c, which are found on pp.87-88 of the 1934 editionand then to continue by reading the following sūtra-s.
