Progression during SoSe-2026

The class takes place on Thursdays from 2:15 pm to 3:45 pm

  1. First Meeting (09.04.2026): reading of தொல்காப்பியம் சொல்லதிகாரம் இடையியல் with Cēṉāvaraiyar's commentary, starting at TC_291c, which is found on p.217 of the 1934 edition.
  2. Second Meeting (16.04.2026). It was decided during the 1st meeting that we would read TC_104c (page 98 inside the 1934 edition), in order to clarify the reasoning in the commentary to TC_291c. TC_104c is also accessible on line 10 of image 119 inside this list of images from a Tiruvāvaṭutuṟai palm-leaf MS. In practice, most of the time was spent reading some Naṉṉūl sūtras, with the numbers N_290m to N_292m (using Mayilainātar's commentary numbering, as edited by UVS in 1918) and in showing how Civañāṉa Muṉivar completely changes the interpretation of N_292m [ஆற னுருபு மேற்குமிவ் வுருபே], and criticizes all his predecessors
  3. Third Meeting (23.04.2026): The plan is now to start reading வேற்றுமையியல் in TC, from the beginning onwards. We manage to read five sūtra-s, starting at TC62c and ending at TC66c, using the PDF containing pp. 61-72.
  4. Fourth Meeting (30.04.2026): The plan is to continue reading வேற்றுமையியல், jumping over TC67c to TC70c, and continuing at TC71c and TC72c, which are available, along with the commentary, on pp. 69-73 of the PDF fragment already used at the previous meeting. It would be advisable to have read those two sutras and part of the commentary, before the class. Another useful thing to do is to listen to the "vERRumaiyiyal.mp3" audio file, which is available inside a folder containing a set of recordings prepared by the CICT, as part of the set of CD-s called தொல்காப்பியம் முற்றோதல்:
  5. Fifth Meeting (07.05.2026): The plan is to continue reading வேற்றுமையியல் moving to TC71c and TC72c, which are available, along with the commentary, on pp. 73-76 of THIS PDF fragment of the 1934 edition.
