TRANSLATION
- (My mind)! We crossed the difficult curam with great effort (13);
- there are branching ways (8)
- where the male Kites (10)
- of big wings which stink with the smell of flesh as they wallowed in blood (9)
- with the flock that gathered there with their kinds (10)
- announce the abundance of raw flesh, and flying high in the sky (11)
- adorn the sky like the red sky at sunset (12)
- (in those) ways which are fearful (8),
- the vaṭukar having angry dogs and nests made of calf-leather (7)
- have left their anger which is the cause for their fighting with their bows (8),
- and which are situated in the endless long stretch of land from which the whirling sun
of moving rays which ejected fire (5)
- and dog out the shadow and took it (6),
- as the clouds failed to pour rain in those places creating fear (4)
- where the male of the good āḷi which inflicts suffering on all other beasts (1)
- wrenches the raised white tusk and eats the pith in it (3)
- to make the strong leader of the herd of elephants to grieve (2).

NOTES
ஆளி a fabulous animal; this is a corruption of யாளி; the image of this animal can be seen in temples :
it is in the centre of and ornamental arch over the head of an idol. this beast is mentioned in porunarāṟṟuppaṭai,
also ""ஆளி நன்மான் அணங்குடைக் குருளை, மீளி மொய்ம்பின் மிகு வலி செருக்கி'' (139-140);
It is partial to the pith in the elephants tusk;
cf. ""மூரித்தாள் ஆளி யானைத் தலை நிலம் புரள வெண்கோடு உண்டதே போன்று'' (civakacintamaṇi, 2554)
For the variant reading குருகு the meaning is the same; ""குருகுவேண்டு ஆளி கோடு புய்த்துண்டென''

As the vaṭukar killed the travellers their anger cooled down.
The availabity of raw flesh was made known to others, by the male kite flying high in the air.
The flock of Kites hovering in the sky with their wings coated with blood appeared like the red sky.
