NOTES
கோதையர்
- should be put in apposition
with இளையோர்:
here refers to playmates other than the confidente.
The statement that the day has become dark
hinted that they should also return home.
As a reply to the words of the friend that talaivi
who played with her playmates during day
should return home at night,
talaivi said that if she stayed
in the house with distemper,
she would be placed under strict guard by her father.
"As the friend is reporting the words of talaivi,
she used the words,
"வைகுதியாயின்! நுந்தை! படுவலும்
In this word உம்
is an expletive.
The words செல்வல் என்றலும் ஆற்றாய்
explains that talaivi will not live
if she returned home
வெறி கொள் பாவை
the priestess who performs a dance being possessed by murukaṉ.
ஆடுமகள் in line 15
is used in the sense
of அவள்
(a demonstrative pronoun)
தெய்ய (16)
is also an expletive.
I think that the reading found in line 11.
"தண்ணரும் பைந்தார்'
should be தண்ணறும் பைந்தார்;
it may be a scribal error.
