NOTES
பாம்புடை விடர பனி நீர் - explains the harmful nature of the water;
இட்டுத் துறை, the fault of the tuṟai;
றாறு நிறைந்தன: the fault of the river.
திங்களங் கதிர் நிலம் கொண்டன - By this is meant that the rising of the moon is an obstacle
to the iravukkuṟi (இரவுக்குறி) As the talaivaṉ who is good by all means comes to the secretly appointed place
by night, and returns without union, I will not to live.
Because of the bright moonlight iravukkuṟi (இரவுக்குறி) is not possible.
By saying `what can I do for this ' the friend hinted that talaivaṉ should marry talaivi early.
வாழலன் This word is, in my opinion, a scribal error,
because அன் as a verb termination is a later usage for first person singular; it should be வாழலென்.
