மத வலி யானை மறலிய பாசறை

- the war-camp in which the elephants of great strength which opposed the enemies.

இடி உமிழ் முரசம் பொரு களத்து இயம்ப

- the victorious muracam (war-drum) to sound like the thunder in the battle-field.

வேந்தனும் வென்று கொடி எடுத்தனன்

- the King also raised his flag having won a victory.

கன்றொடு கறவைப் பல்லினம் புறவுதொறு உகள

- the many herds of milch-cows to return along with their calves, jumping in every jungle.

கோவலர் குழல்வாய்வைத்தனர்

- the cowherds placed their flutes on their lips and played on them.

இளையர் வல்விரைந்து ஏகுவனர் பரிய

- your servants to go in advance very hurriedly

விரியுளைக்கடு நடைப் புரவி வழி வாய் ஓட

- in order to make the horses of expanding manes and swift gait to go in the path.

வலவன் வள்பு வலியுறுப்ப

- the charioteer to hold the briddle tight.

புலவர் குறிகொண்ட பொலந் தார் அகலத்து

- in the chest wearing beautiful garlands, which had received wounds by weapons as marks of valour and which were praised by poets.

தண் கமழ் சாந்தம் நுண் துகள் அணிய

- to be adorned with minute dust together with the cool and fragrant sandal paste.

வென்றி கொள் உவகையொடு நீ புகுதல் வேண்டின்

- as you have desired to enter your house with the joy born of victory.

யாண்டு உறைவது கொல்

- where will it stay ?

மாண்ட போது உறழ் கொண்ட உண்கண் தீதிலாட்டி திருநுதற் பசப்பு

- the sallowness that had spread on the beautiful forehead of talaivi who is without any evil and has eyes coated with collyrium, resembling the glorious nīlam (நீலம்: blue nelumbo) flowers.

மத- strength;

மதவலி, two words having the same meaning indicate excessive strength; it is called in grammar ஒருபொருட் பன்மொழி!

முரசம் இயம்ப, வென்று பாசறைக் கண் கொடு எடுத்தனன் is the syntactical order of words:

வேந்தனும் எடுத்தனன்

this means that the talaivaṉ parted from talaivi to help his King who was in distress. The fact that cowherds were playing upon their flutes shows that they were returning home in the evening.

புரவி ஓடுமாறு வலவன் வள்பு வலியுறுப்பவும், இளையவர் ஏகுவனர் பரியவும், சாந்தம் நுண்துகள் அணியவும் புகுதல் வேண்டின் is the syntactical order of words; the conjuction உம் is to be added to each of the adverbial participles

புலவர் புகழ் குறி

- this means the wounds received on the chest, which are praised by poets.

சாந்தம் நுண்துகள் அணிய: this denotes what he will do after reaching his house

வேண்டின்

- means as you wished it

புல்லினம்

- is the variant reading means the cows mixed with goats and sheep.
