TRANSLATION
- Loving friend (11)!
- you said, "The ruler of the hilly tract (7)
- where the male monkey which has not learnt anything except jumping from branch to branch
and which is the chief of its relations (2)
- having embraced (6)
- the big fruit resembling a pot, of the jack tree, having many bends (1),
- in the rock by which side the mountain stream makes a big sound (3),
- like the man who plays on the muḻavu who follows the viṟali (விறலி: one who dances expressing emotions)
in the old village celebrating a festival, the dancing peacock going in front of,
and invites its dear mate (to its side), is of noble birth; he will not desert people
with whom he has devoloped friendship, he will not speak perishing words;
he has great love". So dilating upon his virtues you united me with him in wedlock.
He is sweeter than the melodies sung by (15)
- the pāṇmakan who firmly established the old fame of añci who has a tall chariot drawn by horses of very rapid gait (12)
- accordign to the order found in the works on sweet musicology which define the good melodies (13),
- and newly composed songs (16)
- and than the day on which he was married to me (17).

The jack fruit is compared to a pot, ""குடக்காய் ஆசினிப் படப்பை'' (naṟṟiṇai, 44-9)
The young monkey is called கல்லாப் பார்ப்பு (malaipatukatān 312); nacciṉārkkiṉiyar explains கல்லா- as the monkey
that has not learnt its business; we have very many reference about monkey with this adjective கல்லா;
கல்லா மந்தி (ainkuṟunūṟu, 227-2);
""கல்லா வன்பறழ்'' (naṟṟiṇai, 57-6, 379-1; ainkuṟunūṟu, 272-1);
""கல்லா வன் பார்ப்பு'' (ainkuṟunūṟu, 280-1),
""மந்திக் கணவன் கல்லாக் கடுவன்''- (ainkuṟunūṟu, 274-1)
The dancing peacock is compared to viṟali and the monkey which carries the big jack-fruit
is compared to the musician who plays upon the muḻavu.
The pāṇaṉ who sang the praises of añci is mentioned here.
The name of the authoress of this poem makes us doubt whether she was related to añci.
People born in noble family possess all good qualities naturally
so the friend placed it first paṇ is the melody which has got all the seven notes of music
tiṟam is that which has got less than the seven notes.
The inner meaning of the description of the monkey of many relations inviting its mate
is that the talaivaṉ would protect his many relations and will be very affectionate towards talaivi.
