NOTES
களரி - களர் is also another word by which this kind of soil is known;
""களர்நிலத்துப் பிறந்த உப்பினை''- (nālaṭiyār,133),;
""பயவாக், களரனையர் கல்லாதவர்'' (Kuṟaḷ 416).
The buds blossom into flowers when the cool wind blows.
படவின் should be added with மயிலினம் பயிலும்
- The author of this poem compares the movement of peacocks on the piṭavu tree
in the rainy season to the tōḷi play of women when they swing their arms;
""தோளி'' is mentioned as
"தோள் வீச்சு' in a verse quoted by aṭiyārkku mallār, cilappaṭikāram, 3-12-25, p. 89.
Dr. V. Swaminatha Ayyar edition, 1955; it is one among the `palvarikkūttu!
Perhaps this is what is called "தோணோக்கம்' in Tiruvācakam.
There is a variant reading "சுழல் ஒலி நாவின்'; I think it to be a better reading
than கழல் ஒலி நாவின்; I have translated adopting that reading.
