TRANSLATION
- Friend! May you live long ! (8)
- you say, "you are undergoing too much suffering (3)
- on account of the beautiful sallow colour having spread on the complexion of your body (2)
- which is like the bright flowers yā (யா) tree on which red powder has been scattered (1)
- you wish to add blame (4)
- to our lover (3)
- If anyone goes there (5)
- and tells him about your acute distress (6)
- can he bear that (5) on hearing those words (4)?
- Even if he is not able to finish (7)
- his business of acquiring wealth (6)
- he would not consider that as superior (7)
- and will stay there (8)
- to lose the pleasure of having union with you (7)
- Though our lover has gone far beyond the mountain (14)

NOTES
The leaves of yā are red in colour; they are compared to the red dewlap of the domestic fowl;
""மனையுறை கோழி அணல் தாழ்பு அன்ன, கவை ஒண் தளிரகருங்கரல் யா அத்து'' (akam, 187-14-15).
The leaves of yā on which red powder is scattered is compared to the complexion of talaivi;
The point of similarity is the colour.
மேனி body; it is used in the sense of complexion as ākupeyar;
மேனி என்றார் ஆகு பெயரால் நிறத்தை'' (cilappatikāram, 5-172, atiyārkkumallār's commentary;
மேனி may be put in apposition with ஆகம்.
எவ்வப் பெருமை has been changed into எவ்வம் பெருமை.
The palmyra tree is compared to the elephant's trunk due to its roughness,
black colour and length. As the trunk of the elephant is raised up on account of heat,
the young tubular palmyra tree which has withered tender leaves, shed by the west wind
is compared to its trunk.
நிலை பெயர்ந்து may also mean, having left that place.
தில்ல is a clitic signifying desire. மன் is an expletive.
