NOTES
ஆலி here does not mean hails but only used in the sense of water.
இனம் தேர்தல் - the farmers select people helpful to plough the land, and bullocks to plough it.
Their voice is heard when they plough and sow; or when they sing to forget the tediousness of their work.
As they do it with joy it is called sweet voice.
The word கார்
should be added before ஆர் பெயல் also.
செவ்வழி is a tune appropriate for the evening.
தம் நிலை here means talaivaṉ's truthfulness.
செய் வினை here means eating and adornment.
கண்ணி வாழ்க one way of blessing anybody;
""யார் கொல் வாழ்க அவன் கண்ணி'' (puṟam, 77-6);
""வாழ்க நின் கண்ணி வாய் வாள் வேந்தே'' (maṇimēkalai, 18-62)
