NOTES

Notes :- "Is there anything else was said by talaimakaṉ to hint gently that there would be no parting hereafter. The talaivaṉ who made it clear to consent to the fact that there would be no parting, has parted, therefore talaivi's eyes were full of tears, she breathed hot and was undergoing distress.

The carps that fight with each other are compared to the two eyes; ""நெடுநீர்ப், பொருகயல் முரணிய உண்கண் '' (Kuṟuntokai, 250-4-5)

நம் in line 8 is used in the sense of nominative

புரிந்து - as talaivar is desirous of grace.

நீவி - a long bag made of cloth into which money is put and can be tied round the waist.

பாம்பு ஊன் தேம்பும் - suggests the excessive heat of the desert;

""புரிந்து விடு கயிற்றின் மாகணம் வீயும் நீன் அத்தம்'' (tiṇaimālaimūṟṟaimpatu, 75);

நீங்கா வம்பலர் - unceasing stream of new people who travel that way.

The subject for the verb கணையிட - has to be supplied

வம்பலர் - is put in apposition with தொலைந்தோர். It is a purāṇic story which explains the cause of eclipse that the serpent, rāku swallows the moon on a full moon day ""கல்சேர் ஞாயிறு அரவு நுங்கு மதியின் ஐ யெமைறையும்'' (akam 114-4-5); ""அரவு நுங்கு மதியிற்கு இவணோர் போல்'' (kuṟuntokai, 395-4); ""இளம் பிறை யாயக் காற் றிங்களைச் சேராது அணங்கருந்துப்பின் அர'' (nālaṭiyar, 241), ""அங்கண் மதியம் அவரின் வாய்ப்பட் டென ஏதில் மாக்கனாம் நோவர் தோழி'' (tolkāppiyam, akattinaiyal 3, naccinārkkiṉaiyar, c. kanēsa Ayyar edition 15)
