TRANSLATION
- Friend ! May you live long (10)!
- Our lover who captivated (3)
- our heart (2)
- after embracing us to increase our shining beauty (2),
- said, "Is there anything hereafter
that will make you distressed. Dispel you fear". (1)
- Thinking of the desert path in which he went,
the eyes are daily (3)
- full of tears like the carp fish
(கயல்)
that submerge in water and fight with each other.
You breathe hot softly (5),
- you suffer night and day being consumed by distress (6).
- The forehead that has lost its brightness
is like moon swallowed by the serpent (7)
- In the forest when the drying-up is abundant (12)
- the bodies of snakes shrink (12)
- like the long (11)
- and big (10)
- money bag made of cloth from which money
has ben emptied (11),
- our lover has gone beyond the mountain
which has adjacent hills of tall stones (17)
- where the crows come and perch on the houses (16)
- with their voices having become subdued
like those of the spies (15),
- after having drunk the blood
flowing from the cleft wound (14)
- of the wayfarers who travel without ceasing,
in that forest (13)
- and who have been killed by the arrows

Notes :- "Is there anything else was said by talaimakaṉ
to hint gently that there would be no parting hereafter.
The talaivaṉ who made it clear to consent to the fact
that there would be no parting,
has parted, therefore talaivi's eyes were full of tears,
she breathed hot and was undergoing distress.
The carps that fight with each other are compared
to the two eyes;

நம் in line 8
is used in the sense of nominative
புரிந்து
- as talaivar is desirous of grace.
நீவி
- a long bag made of cloth into which money
is put and can be tied round the waist.
பாம்பு ஊன் தேம்பும்
- suggests the excessive heat of the desert;
""புரிந்து விடு கயிற்றின் மாகணம் வீயும் நீன்
அத்தம்'' (tiṇaimālaimūṟṟaimpatu, 75);
நீங்கா வம்பலர்

It is a purāṇic story which explains the cause of eclipse
that the serpent, rāku swallows the moon on a full moon day
