NOTES
பெரும் பெயர்: is used ironically,
talaivaṉ who returned from the harlot's house
flattered talaivi and decried the harlot so as to show his superiority, and wanted mediation.
The companion told him about what the harlot did and added whether that was his superiority
and asked him to desist from flattering talaivi, and refused mediation.
The new flowers of iṅkai (ஈங்கை) and the frest tender leaves of the mango tree gently rubbed the crane
and lulled it into sleep. This hints that talaivaṉ gets all the pleasures he did not intend to enjoy.
