TRANSLATION
- At dawn when the darkness has almost disappeared (5)
- the group of sable clouds which rose on the big sky (1)
- and stayed there long (4),
- showered drops of water having lustre,
in conjunction with the cool hails (3),
- which are like the shivering caused
by being possessed by deities,
and combining with big rain of large drops of water (4)
- resembling the scattered eyes of the tender palmyra fruit (2).
- The young female deer of hopping gait which embraces
its young ones (8)
- after drinking the clear water which has been stored (7)
- in the red soil which appears
as if it had been dyed artificially (16),
- with its superior stag having horns
twisted clock-wise stays under the lengthening shade
of the wildlime tree which has waving branches (10).
- The unblown buds of bedaly emitic tree (piṭavu)
unfold their petals as the bees make a humming sound (11)
- The peacock dances spreading its tail having rare dots (12).
- In the sand having lines (12)
- cochineal (15)
- and the faded flowers of iron wood tree (Kāyā)
many of them combining together (14)
- make the wet place beautiful
like ocral mixed with sapphire (13).

to add beauty to the forest (16),

- with some duty entrusted to him (18)
- and does not bestow his grace upon us (19).

The tender palmyra fruit resembles the eyes;
so it is metaphorized as the eye;
cf. நுங்கு சூன்றிட்டன்ன, கண்ணீர்மை கண் பொழுகுவேன்'' (nālatiyār, 44)
The eye of the tender palmyra fruit is compared to the hails for its colour and shape. அல்குநிழல்
- the lengthening shade in the afternoon;
""அல்கு நிழல் போல் அகன்றகன்றோருமே, தொல்புகழாளர் தொடர்பு'' (nālatiyār, 166).
Lines 13-15. The same idea is found in another stanza in akam;
14-1-4; ""அரக்கத்தன்ன செந்நிலப் பெருவழிக், காயாஞ் செம்மல் தா அய்ப் பலவுடன், ஈயல் மூதாய வரிப்பப்,
பவளமொடு, மணிமடடைந்தன்னகுன்றம்'' The winter season is very well described in the first 16 lines.
