TRANSLATION
- Our lover parted from us (7)
- our longing being delicate in many ways (2)
- about which, I was afraid of being known to others what passed between us two (1)
- and I concealed the clandestine love (1)
- like the dream which the devil had and which it could not reveal to others (2),
- the scandal to become like the waterfall that falls with abundant water spreading on the top of the very big kolli hill (6)
- whose extensive area is desired by deities, and on which the clouds poured rain with desire to pour there (5)
- and which belongs to Poṟaiyaṉ wearing ornaments of gold
and having an army of increasing valour (4)
- and a victorious lance (3).
- My ignorant mind thought that lover would return (15)
- like the flock of parrots which fly in a row in the morning (11),
- from paṟampu (பறம்பு) hill belonging to Pāri whose fame for munificence is praised by all (10),
- who gives flawless ornaments and male elephants resembling hillock (1),

- support, in order to bring red superior variety of paddy of bent surface (12);

NOTES
When the fortress of Paṟampu which was besieged by the three kings of Tamiḻnātu,
his friend and court poet, Kapilar, trained parrots, sent them in the morning; and they would return in the evening
with corns of paddy, so as that he may not surrender for want of food.
This incident is not mentioned in puṟam but only in this anthology
""உலகுடன் திரிதரும் பலர் புகழ் நல்லிசை, வாய் மொழிக் கபிலன் சூழச்செய்நின்று,
செழுஞ்செய் நெல்லின் விளைகதிர் கொண்டு, தடந்தான் ஆம்பல், மலரொடு கூட்டி,
யாண்டு பல கழியவேண்டு வயிற் பிழையாது, ஆளிரூஉக்கடந்து வாளமர் உழக்கி,
ஏதுகோட்டு யானை வேந்தர் ஓட்டிய, கடும்பரிப்புரவிக்கைவண்பாரி'' (akam 78, 15-22).
The old glose on these lines is interesting; ""கபிலன் சூழ என்றது, "பாரியை அரசர் மூவரும் வளைத்திருப்ப,
அகப்பட்டிருந்து உணவில்லாமைக் கிளிகளை வளர்த்துக் கதிர் களைக்கொண்டு வரவிட்ட கதை''.
The words "புலம் கந்தாகி' reminds one of the following lines in puṟam, III, 3-4.
and the interesting commentary on those lines; "If the viṟali comes singing she will get even the paṟampu;
she cannot get it by her feminine charms."
