NOTES
Special notes :-
- means foster-mother mistaking the distress of talaivi caused by talaivaṉ to be caused by something else.
- The mother being confused in mind even after wasting money on diviners who tell things by kaṭṭu, kaḻaṅku and on velaṉ, the disease of talaivi is not cured.
- means the food of leaves of beasts; குளகு அருந்தும் மறி; தாய் முலை பெறா அமறி it means such a young lamb. அதூஉம் from the உம்மை we have to infer that talaivi is ashamed of foster-mother's confusion also; great people will be ashamed of misdeeds committed by others. செல்லல்(7) வேறு உணர்ந்து(1) எனக் கூட்டுக் ஒற்றி may be interpreted in this way also; knowing the movement by shadowing it; without being seen by it. உடு feathers fixed to the arrow to give it more speed; "உடு அமைப கழி-இறகு அமைந்த பகழி' சீவக சிந்தாமணி; 2191,நச்.)
It may be of interest to compare the following lines in Kalittokai by the same kapilar;
(41-7-6) with the lines 8-14 in this poem.
Inner meaning:
The stone discharged by the hunter scatters
the flowers of east indian kino-tree,
destroys the honey-comb and gets lodged
in the fruit of the jack tree.
From this we have to infer the scandal about two lovers
that arose on account of veṟi,
spoiled talaivaṉ's coming to visit talaivi
by secret appointment, destroyed our pleasure and stay always in our mind.
