TRANSLATION
- One who comes daily to give vent to your sorrow, (6)
- to the farm which was previously consumed by fire, and where the millet is bent with the weight of the ears of corn (5),
- adorned with the beautiful chaplets made of fresh flowers in the big branches of east indian kino-tree which grows in the slopes (3)
- and which is in contrast in fragrance to other flowers (4)
- and with a beautiful and bright chest on which is smeared sandalwood paste of your mountain (2)!
- The place of the father of this talaivi who speaks beautiful and sweet words (17),
- and who tresses on which are adorned, without any fault, (15)
- the flowers dropped from the bunches, (16),
- which is strictly guarded (17),
- can be compared to māṅkāṭu where virgin girls live (15)
- which is adjacent to the hill, (14)
- where the male monkey, the father of young monkeys, even if it scoops out the jack fruit for its pulp (13)

NOTES
There are two variant readings,
one in the poem line 16 "கொங்கோ குதிர்த்த' and another
in the name of the author, as "முற்றூற்று மூதெயினனார் (muthūṟṟu mūteyiṉaṉār
The friend informs talaivaṉ about talaivi having been placed under guard in her house
and prevents him from coming in the day; so she says "செல்மதி'. As the talaivi is placed
under guard in her house, the friend requests him not to be depressed but to get into matrimony soon
with efforts in that direction; so she says "சிறக்க நின் உள்ளம்'
As it is said "நின்மலை ஆரம், நீவிய' we know that talaivaṉ is the chief of that country.
"முருகு முரண் கொள்ளுதல்: being at variance in fragrance from other flowers;
it may also mean; one who is wearing a chaplet in contrast to murukaṉ.
The inhabitants of the hilly region burn all valuable and precious trees without knowing their value
and in that field sow millet which is their staple food;
""நறுந்தண் தகரம் வகுளம் இவற்றை,
வெறும் புதல் போல் வேண்டாது, வேண்டி, -எறிந்து உழுது,
செந்தினை வித்துவார் தங்கை''

எவ்வங் கூறிய - to give vent to one's suffering; this may be best understood by the following quotations;
""நெருநலும் முன்றாள் எல்லையும் ஒருசிறைப், புதுவையாகலின் கிளத்தல் நாணி, நேரிறை வளைத்தோள்
நின் தோழி செய்த ஆருயிர் வருத்தம் களையாயோ'' (poruḷatikāram, kaḷaviyal, 25, நச்சினார்க் கினியர் உரை);
நெருநல எல்லை ஏனல் தோன்றித், திருமணி ஒளிர்வரும் பூணன் வந்து,
புரவலன் போலும் தோற்றம் உறழ்கொள, இரவல் மாக்களின் பணி மொழி பயிற்றி'' (அகம்.32-1-4);
If we adopt the reading "எவ்வம் கூரிய' the meaning will be to make our suffering acute;
then it will refer to talaivi's suffering; then talaivaṉ does not openly speak in so many words; he only hints
by his facial expression; this can be understood from the following quotation;
கயமலர் உண்கண்ணாய்! காணாய் ஒருவன்,
வயம் என் அடித்தேர்வான் போலத் தொடை மாண்ட, கண்ணியன் வில்லன் வரும்; என்னை நோக்குபுவ
முன்னத்திற்ககாட்டுதல் அல்லது தான் உற்ற, நோய் உரைக்கல்லான் பெயரும் மன் பன்னாளும்'' (கலித்தொகை, 37-1-5).
""தன் குறை இது என்றான் தழை கொணரும் தண் சிலம்பன்'' (tiṇaimālainūṟṟaimpatu, 31).
As the female monkey has given birth to a young one, the male monkey is called father.
There is no fault in the male monkey scooping out the jack fruit for the pulp as it is its natural food and
as it wanted to remove the acute hunger of the female monkey. The friend told about the nature of that place
of talaivi where the monkey which scooped out the jack fruit to fullfil its duty;
Even though it could not be included among men who have the power of discerning good and bad, it was afflicted
by the deities residing in the mountain, like mānkatu, the abode of virgin girls which has the protection of being guarded by deities.
