• in the expanse of the long and big tank which rose up to the level of the bank, without stopping, as they looked at you every time with their cool and excessively beautiful eyes (7)
• That is what people talk (6-7)
• about you (9).
• That sport (9)
• has become the topic for a big scandal (15)
• like the noise that arose at day time when big balls of rice with toddy were distributed in arimaṇarāyil uṟattūr (13)
• where the chieftain evvi of nītūr in whose streets the music of yaḻ was always to be heard (1),
• and who has a sword which never missed its aim (11),
• who destroyed the great prowess (12)
• of his enemies wearing yellow gold ornaments (12)
• who did not carry out his bidding (11).
• Now it is not worrying us (16).
• The oath which you took in the presence of murukaṉ who is foremost in battles and who is pleased to reside in alaivāy where rays from precious stones shed lustre (20)
• giving me pain.
• In that alaivāy the peacocks which are frightened by the thunderous noise (18)
• made by proud farmers who work in the nearby fields (17),
• fly from there, and settle in that hill which is the abode of gods, to make it beautiful (19).

மகிழ்ந (9)! நெருநை(2) தலைப்புணை தழீஇ(3) இளந்துணை மகளிரொடு ஈரணிக் கலைஇ(5) மழைக் கண் நோக்கு தொறும் தவிர் விலையாகி(7) நாண் இழந்து(8) ஆடினை என்ப(9); அதுவே(9) எவ்வி(11) பொருந்தலர் நெடுமிடல் சாய்த்த(12) அரிமண வாயில் உறத்தூர் ஆங்கண்(13) பெருஞ்சோற்று இமிழ் அன்ன(14) கவ்வை பெரிது ஆகின்று(15); இனி அஃது(15) அவலம் அன்று எமக்கே(16); அலைவாய்ச் சூளொடு உற்ற சூளே(21) (அவலம் ஆகும்);

There are two variant readings in the second line; அந்திப் பநாஅய, அந்தீமபாஅய
For the first; the water that spread in the evening, is the meaning
for the second, beautiful and sweet water that flowed into the tank is the meaning

māmūlar and paraṇar are the two caṅkam poets who narrate some incidents that took place in tamiḻ nātu, in their poems bearing on akapporuḷ

Some people take மேவார் as மேவர and பொருந்தலர் as பெருந்திறல்; but it is not warranted by any text

pāṇtiyaṉ netūñceḻiyaṉ. Taking oath in the presence of gods is mentioned in akam, poem 110, lines 4-5;
""கொடுஞ்சுழிப் புகா அர்த்தெய்வநோக்கிக், கடுஞ்சூள் தருகுவனிகைகே'';
