TRANSLATION
- In the season when the land is completely without moisture and the heat is at its zenith to destroy all crops (4)
- from the fertile earth (3),
- when the sun which strikes fear (2)
- and spreads out its bright rays (2)
- and rises in the big ocean of shining waves to be worshipped by the world. (1)
- in the big and dreadful forest which has many different branching paths (5)
- and in the difficult desert where the hunters well trained in archery (7),
- hiding themselves in the branches of the yā of tall stature (8),
- are on the look-out for unwary new passers-by who go that way, (7)
- the youthful and unperturbed talaivaṉ led my daughter and went away with her (9).
- Had I but known her firm love towards him, alas (10)!
- I would have united then in wedlock very happily, without hatred on displeasure and got him (13)
- the sweet and pleasant sleep on the expanse of the appearing breasts (15)
- of my daughter who is beautiful by her faultless forehead (14),
- in my house which has plenty of every kind to add to its greatness (12)
- and which can be compared to the city of Vañcai (12)
- which is protected from enemies and ruled justly by Kōtai who possesses a shining lance (11),
- to make splendid. That could not come to pass (13)

In line 3 கண் can be taken as an expletive particle also;
in puṟam, stanza, 109; ""மீன்கணற்றதன் சுளையே'' கண் is an expletive particle.
ஒற்றிக் கோடு கொள் should be taken as being on the look-out,
having climbd up the yā tree and being seated there, and hiding themselves.
காளைக்கு-காளையின்பால்
- this is (உருபுமயக்கம்) the use of one case affix for that of another,
அன்னோ
- a word of exclamation expressing regret.
ஓம்பிக் காக்கும்
- rulling taking much care; ie. protecting his subjects as a poor farmer
who has a single field would bestow all his care and attention on that (Kampa rāmāyaṇa, pālakāntam chapter அரசியற் படலம் 12)
Poets of the caṅkan speak of lance highly as it is the weapon of murukaṉ,
As the author of this poem praises the cēra king he must belong to Karuvūr. கருவூர் is another name for வஞ்சி (vañci)
