TRANSLATION
- (Friend!) As we heard (15)
- the noise made by the big tiger after killing its prey of a male elephant
and the harsh sound of the drum in the shape of a sun glass and having a strong face (15),
- produced by the forest dwellers who have bows as their weapons, in their habitations (14),
- after consuming toddy (and bearing in mind that talaivi could get frightened by them)
we wished to have a look at the back of talaivi made exceedingly beautiful (7).
- She, having tucked beautifully in her few tresses which can be worn in five different styles (3)
- the bright flowers of trumpet tree growing in the forest which has black inner petals (1),
- mixing them with the wild jasmine flowers which blossom in summer (2)
- and having inserted soft bunches of common cadamba from which honey drips (4),
- and swinging the arms so as to make the bright bangles worn on them to make a jingling sound (5)
- and walking a few soft steps slowly (6)
- to make the anklets shine (5).
- "we shall have a look at your back fully adorned (7);
- so walk before us for a short while " we said (8);
- She did not proceed further on account of bashfulness (8).

The idea that talaivaṉ desired to have a look at the beauty of talaivi's back is found in the following verses :-
""காண்பாண் அவாவினால் காதலன் காதலிபின் நடவா நிற்ப நாண்பால ளாதலால்
நன்னுதல் கேள்வன்பின் நடவா நிற்ப ஆண்பான்மை முன்றா அயில்வே லவன் தனக்கும்
அர்சொலாட்கும் பாண்பால வண்டினமும் பாட அருஞ்சுரமும் பதிபோன்றன்றே"

அன்பிணைத்து அஞ்சொல்லி பின் செல்லும் ஆடவன்; நீடவன்ற்ன் பின் பணைத் தோளி வரும்; இப்பெருஞ்
சுரம் செல்வதன்று; பொன்பணைத்தன்ன இறை உறை தில்லைப் பொலிமலர்மேல் நன்பணைத் தண்நறவுணை

காண்கம் : can be taken as a finite verb : it need not be changed into an adverbial participle
ஏகென can also be split into ஏகு + என
Talaivaṉ who heard the noise of the tiger which killed an elephat as its prey
and the sound produced by the forest-dwellers by their drum thought that talaivi would be frightened by these
and so asked talaivi to proceed in front of him, without disclosing to her his intention
and used his desire to see her beautiful back and slow gait as a pretext
She thought that talivaṉ was praising her and due to her bashfulness, bowed her head
and stood there. As talaivaṉ could not do anything else, he stayed with talaivi in the desert,
for a short while. Talaivaṉ narrated this incident to talaivi's friend after his return from elopement.
வளைதெளிர்ப்ப வீசிச் சிலம்பு நக இயலி: by these words talaivaṉ praised the slow gait of talaivi.
By the words கூந்தல் அழுத்தில, மராஅம் அடைச்சி, அணிமாண் சிறு புறம் talaivaṉ expressed his desire
to enjoy the beauty of that talaivaṉ asked talaivi to proceed a little before him, so as to have a look at her back.
talaivi would certainly be afraid of the noises whether she precedes talaivaṉ or not.
Without bringing the idea of talaivaṉ stayed in the desert for the day.
