NOTES

The red feet receive beauty by wearing tinkling bells. It may also be intrepreted as the red feet which add beauty to the tinkling bells.

In patiṟṟuppattu there occurs a line which means. `bright forehead, which adds beauty to the ear-ring, and ladies who add beauty to the ornaments (31-25-26).

The adverbial participles பாராட்ட, வடுக்கொளாஅ, மேற் செல end with விளையாடு in line 7.

As the young children play in the frontyard on which sand is spread the pigeons male and female playing there fly above.

The play of young girls and boy which make the pigeons fly above, can give pleasure only to those who are in the company of their husbands. It will make talaivi think, ``We too had not the good fortune to be in the company of our husband'' and make her feel sorry.

வினை நவில் புரவி may also mean horses well-trained in warfare and trained to carry out the bidding of the charioteer.

பணை நிலை முனைஇய means that the horses hated standing for a long time in the stable and that is also a reason for their galloping .

மா அறிவுறாஅ means knowing the mind of the horse.

Naḷaṉ is reputed to be well-versed in the art of knowing the mind of horses and covering long distances in a short times.

As the charioteer brought talaivaṉ to the village of talaivi in a short time he blessed the driver.

தளவம் - golden jasmine The red beak of the king-fisher is compared to தளவு in aiṅkuṟuūṟu, stanza 447, l.2;
""பனிவளர் தளவின் சிரல் வாய்ச் செம் முகை'',
