தோழி! வாழி! (1); நாம் இளமணல் எக்கரிலே(4) ஆயமொடு புணர்ந்து விளையாட(5), ஒருவன்(7) தேரினை இனையரொடு நீக்கிச்(6) சேரவந்து(7) வரிமனைபுகழந்த கிளவியனாய்(8) மறு மொழி பெறா அன் பெயர்ந்தனன்; அதற் கொண்டு(9) பெருந்தோள் சா அய்ச்(10). கவ்வையிற் கலங்கி(12) வனை நெகிழ்ந்த நம் மொடு(13) கங்குலான் துறையும் துஞ்சாது(14); (இஃது) எவன் கொல்(1)?

குறை நேர்ந்த

- one who consented to make up one's wants.

குறை நயப்ப

- pleads with talaivi to consent to make up talaivaṉ's wants.

பிசிர்

The fragrance is due to the pollen of mast-wood tree.

Lines 8 and 9 indicate that the talaivaṉ praised their house drawn on sand to get a word as reply from talaivi. As they did not speak even a single word as reply out of rudeness he returned silently.

"அதற்கொண்டு(9) நம்மொடு'(13) means that the cause for our malady is, that they were separated from him though our heart was with him. That even the harbour does not sleep means that as they did not have break throughout the night. So she sympathizes with the sea as it too did not sleep at night. The only remedy for the removal of our distress and the stopping of scandal is to accede to the request of talaimakaṉ; there is no other way out
