Translation: Friend ! Please hear an incident that happened yesterday and which would create laughter (1). The chief of the hilly region (10) where the fearless male wild pig repulsed and drove off the strong hounds and preventing them to come near (2) and arrested the approach of hunters very near it (3), and came out the forest (4) after its mate having hanging dugs escaped (4), safely with its young ones (3). On seeing the pig (which was watching for hunting persons in the difficult pathwway which has a narrow passage (5) the hunter (6) came near, having fixed sharp-pointed arrow in his bow (7); he, on remembering that the pig was like his chief of great valour who, even after the army which gave a frontal attack had to flee helter sketor (8) never traced his steps and arrested the chasing army in its way (9), returns home without discharging the arrow at the pig (10) (The chief) on whose high and round shoulders was worn a garland from which flowers have dropped, (12) and which was pulled by him having been engangled in the dense shrub, and torn and the strands became loose (11) the garland appeared like the rope swaying to and fro beautifully like the rope on the hump on the withers of a bull (13); our mother (14) saw him standing in our house (14). Quickly she stared me in the face (15) and went away laughing (16) remarking ironically, ``you are a good girl'' (16)

The friend spoke to talaimakaḷ so as to be heard by talaimakaṉ who was standing outside the fence at the appointed secret place at night

Note : As there is no difference between talaivi and her friend, the friend spoke about the incident. But nacciṉaṟkkiṉiyar has taken this verse to be the statement of tālaivi herself. That seems to be more appropriate. "மடைசெலல்.....பெருவிறல்' explain that the hunter stood amazed at the actions of the fearless pig; hence he returned without discharging the arrow aimed at it. "மடை செலல்..... பெருவிறல்; This reminds us of the tuṟai in puṟapporuḷ in Tolkāppiyam which is as follow; `valour of one who arrested single-handed the onslaught of the enemy's army as the stone barrage arrests the flood coming with great speed'. The inner meaning :- The meaning that we get from the incident of the wild pig that saves its female and young ones from all dangers is that talaivaṉ also should protect talaivi from all troubles that arise out of her being interned in the house. Pēraciriyar has quoted the 16th line in meyppāttiyal for laughing to scorn (எள்ளல்) and for laughter born out of one's own ignorance; cūtram, 8
