TRANSLATION
- The northern wind has arrived quickly and stayed with no pity on us (8)
- and with a sound resembling `Kal' after having stirred
and swept over the green ponds where the paddy crop is making a noise (7)
- in the field where ripe ears of corn being prominent are bent after blooming from the embryo (6)
- resembling the embryo of the whip snake (5)
- though the new arrival of rain (5)
- has stopped to make the indian jalap which spreads
on the bushes which are wet, which blossom in the evening (3)
- to adorn the sides near villages, by the noisy and fine drops of rain water falling on them (4),
- to make the īṅkai tree to put forth flowers like the red coral which has curved holes (1-2)
- and to make the beautiful flowers of field-beans to drop (1)
- It should go there without stopping here and tell talaivar (9),
- ``you have stayed too long,'' (9)
- and should add about our life without our partners, hating many things (10)
- and our strength of will in putting up with distress without dying (1),''
- and know his state of mind (11);
- it would be good; it is my wish (12).

- inflicts distress on us only to make us shed tears (13).

NOTES
சினை நேர்பு has been taken to mean கிளைத்தல் பொருந்தி
But I have taken it to mean the embryo of the whip-snake which is commonly called பச்சைப் பாம்பு
in Tamil.
civaka-cintamani verse 73. has employed this simile for paddy crop
when the grains are concealed inside the plant.
talaivi is alread suffering on account of separation.
Over and about that the northern wind also adds its quota of pain.
So she qualifies it by the epithet pitiless. The northern wind has arrived earlier
than its usual time is expressed by the word கடிது வந்து இறுத்த.
The strength of talaivi is putting up with all sufferings and yet she is not dead.
If the northern wind which has caused so much suffering staying in our place is also at the place
where talaivaṉ stays, he will not bear it and return soon to be with talaivi.
அவர் நிலை அறியுமாயின் can be interpreted in this way also;
If the northern wind can tell talaivan about the suffering we undergo on account of the separation,
as a messenger and return to us to tell about the state of mind of talaivaṉ.
நம் வலத்து அன்மை can be translated as `not within in our power'
