• (Companion)! Our talaivar has decided to depart from us (11)
• and to go into the difficult forests where heat is shining (10),
• without thinking they are distant (10).
• They have spacious tracts without water and they have lost their beauty of shade (9)
• and they are situated in the land of vaṭukar whose food is white fat mixed with rice (8)
• They offer to gods in the early morning intoxicating toddy (7)
• as a thanks giving for the herd of cows together with bulls (6)
• which they lift from enemies' battle-fronts (6),
• having adorned their curly black hairs (5)
• with flowers of forest jasmine blossomed at dawn, from which the leaves have been plucked, for the bees to swarm (5)
• on them. That country is further north of vēṅkaṭam (3)
• which belongs to toṇṭaiyar (தொண்டையர்) of valourous battles (11)
• and possessing elephants trained in warfare (1)
• That vēṅkatam has white streams (3)
• which are seen in the heights (2)
• and which descend from the high tops which are difficult to ascend (2),
• where groups of clouds traverse (2).
• Though he has decided to part from us, he will not forget enjoying your tenderness (24)
• which is pleasant to the touch (24)
• and your curly tresses resembling the black sand found in several lines (22)
• when the excessive floods in Kaviri subsides (22).
• That river belongs to cōḻar who have a sword which never misses it aim (21)

(தோழி)! (நம் தலைவர்) வேங்கடத்து உம்பர்(3) வடுகர் தே எத்து(8) அருஞ் சுரம் அகறல் ஆய்ந்தனராயினும்(11), (நின்) கூந்தல்(23) உறல் இன் சாயலொடு ஒன்றுதல் மறந்து(24), பெருங்கவின் சிதைய நீங்கிச்(16) சென்று(19) அரும் பெறல் அமிழ்தம் பெறினும்(18) நீடலோ இலர்(19).
