TRANSLATION
- My mind (21)!
- The lady who has the traits of a deity (8)
- is as beautiful as a doll made of superior fine gold without impurities (1)
- and which shines brilliantly when it receives the mild rays of the sun (2)
- which spread in the sky (2)
- She has many dense tresses which can be dressed in five different styles (3)
- She has red lips and sharp white teeth like the fresh and white sprout (5)
- of the Kaus-grass whose shrub of bulbous root has just branched out in the sand (4)
- She speaks words as pleasant and sweet (7)
- to hear as the musical note of cevvaḻi (செவ்வழிப்பண்) produced by an expert musician
playing upon flawless yaḻ (யாழ்) (6)
- you were desirous of such a lady (8)
- But you did not think that she would be very difficult to obtain (10),
- when you were in a confused state like the water stirred (9)
- by the herd of big male elephants (8)
- when they rested themselves in it for bathing (8-9)
- Daily (10)
- you came crossing the difficult ways of the desert beset with dangers (11)
- and pushed me into trouble (12)
- You thought (22)
- times without number (21)
- about her who is not easy to obtain (22)
- and you gave me trouble which would be never ceasing (23)
- (you deserve the following punishment) Kuṭṭuvaṉ who is capable of heroic warfare (16)
- and adorns himself with a garland from which honey flows (16),
- who has a big army as big as the sea (15)
- whose weapons glitters, (15)
- has much strength, (17)
- opposed kings like the strong (13)
- cloud that cleaves the sky with its lightning and starts on its journey (12).
- He established war camps of varying languages (14)
- wherever he desired to fix one according to his sweet will and pleasure (14).
- He did not get any one who could oppose him, on land (17).
- So with raising up his anger excessively (17),
- besieged the sea (18)
- with the strength to fight there (18).
- He threw his eminent lance into the sea (19)
- which had high waves, to make it recede (19)
- That eminent lance should pierce through your heart and get stuck up (20)
- there, and let your excessive pride perish in that way (21).
