TRANSLATION
- The elephant was badly wounded
when it killed its enemy of a tiger (3)
- much to the delight of its young female
with a soft head and its head, (2)
- in the slopes of the hill which has many shining white streams (1)
- If that elephant heaves a sigh raising its trunk
in the mountain which has boulders, (4)
- the fragrant bunches of flowers of east indian kino tree, rise (6)
- like the scattering sparks of fire
in the forge of the blacksmith when he presses
the bellows with his feet (6),
- and fall together (7)
- spreading on the big bush
which by its colour resembles the sapphire, (8)
- like so many small glow-worns (7)
- Chief of such a land (8)!
- You come in the narrow path of the mountainous way (13)
- without minding about the dangers (14).
- When thick darkness envelopes it (13),
- with the help of a lance, (12)
- and with a mind which does not know decrease of ardour (12),
- in the fearful expanse where violent thunders
make a loud noise (11)
- and which are capable of destroying
the dotted hoods of cobras (10)
- at night (9),
- Are there others also except ourselves, (9)
- who swim in the ocean of unbearable distress
which is due to thoughts about you (15) ?
