TRANSLATION
- The fishermen who earn their livelihood by dragging the fishing-hook with a strong string (2)
- knowing the fish swallowing the hook covered with a bait, (2)
- do not depend on rainfall nor do they know any poverty (1)
- In the tank of fertile lotuses (3)
- where fish are in abundance (3),
- the broad leaf of the lotus which has a long stem (5)
- and which rises above the surface of the water (4)
- whenever the wind blows (5)
- The big and placid tank is disturbed (5)
- and the leaf is caused to move (6)
- like the ears of a big elephant (6)
- The scandal for which the chief of agricultural tract was the cause (6)
- and which rose in connection with me (7)
- is great (7).
- His friendship (7)
- was only to that extent of sporting in water (9)
- with the help of a float made of European bamboo reed which had grown fertile (8)
- He, on his part, is still in some lady's house (13)
- having embraced the shoulders which have the cool fragrance of sandal (12)

- I can be compared to pōr (போர் - a village in coḻa nāṭu) which is in the country watered by Kāviri (16)
- and which belongs to paḻaiyaṉ (பழையன்) (15)
- who has a victorious lance (14),
- arrows showering like rain, and a shield resembling the cloud (15).
- We are in the relationship of enemy to her (18).
- Her husband himself (20)
- who deserts ladies with whom he had union, for their beautiful foreheads to turn sallow (19)
