TRANSLATION
- Our talaivar crossed the big mountain which has an adjoining hill which stands tall (13)
- There the withered long bamboo (6)
- which has upward-looking shafts and seeds (6)
- makes a noise and splits quickly like the speed of the arrow discharged from the bows by warriors making a bustle (7).
- In the forest which was scorched by summer (9)
- and which has got a great expanse of hot pebbles which have completely lost their greenness (8)
- the clouds have ceased raining (9)
- and as a result of that there are not streams on the high peaks (10)
- In those peaks all the red-flowered silk-cotton tree have blossomed without a single leaf (11-2)
- like the row of lamps in the big festival (of lamps) (11)
- Our lover has the strength of mind to decide to stay in the strange place
like one who has a sweet life as strong as iron,
- and has left us to remain here
with a heart completely prostrate, and to make our shoulders which wear choice jewels
and have appreciable beauty like bamboo,
- become thin so that the bright bangles become slip off
and lose their great beauty
