TRANSLATION
- In the extensive desert region heat is shining as the rays of the moving sun surrounds that region (2).
- There the trees are charred and the fertility of the soil has decreased (1)
- The big group of salt sellers who transport salt that is produced in the ocean of roaring waves, (5-6)
- kindle a small fire with the help of a fire-drill (5),
- and the remains of the big elephant's flesh left over by the tiger which killed
and which was left in turn after having strung it in an iron rod by the noisy highway robbers, (4)
- and eat it (4),
- with the sweet water got from the mountain pool and poured intothe cooking pot. (7)
- We have crossed many deserts like that (8).
- As the mind of the talaivi has gone with us (8),
- the lady with perfect ornaments (14)
- has sallowness spreading on her body (9),
- in the evening which has solitude, as the rays of the setting sun have become dim (10),
- broods over something for a long time (9)
- She places her soft fingers on her forehead (11);
- Her eyes are filled up with tears (10-11)
- and they roll down like the water will suffer (14)
- with the affliction as a result of which her big shoulders become lean (13)
- She deserves our pity (14).
