TRANSLATION
- The good natured talaivi has crossed
and went beyond many tracts of land (6)
- The calf of the elephant, with a red mouth
rose quickly (3)
- being afraid of the roaring noise
made by the male elephant (2)
- as the young female elephant
with a soft head was caught in a deep pit (1)
- It drank the milk of the she-buffalo (5)
- in the old village which has streets full of cow-dung (4)
- the circle of female attendants of talaivi
also felt sorry on behalf of her, losing its beauty (7)
- The foster-mother too (7)
- took the doll of talaivi which was lying on the sand
which was brought and spread (12)
- She gently rubbed the eyes
and forehead of the doll (9)
- and said, `Let my life quit my body !' (8)
- She laid the doll in the shade of chaste tree
having a curved stem, which falls in lines , to feel cool (9-10)
- and adorned it with the faded flowers
of blue nelumbo (குவளை)
which was reared in pots (11)
- She addressed it saying `My dear daughter!
Please give me your shoulders' and is weeping embracing it (8).
