• Chief (8)!
• The hot rays of the sun scorch the earth exceedingly (1-2)
• Therefore the many broad and dried leaves of teak which grow densely in the area of the adjoining hills are made to drop by the western wind with the sound of `ol', from their tall branches to make them appear empty (3-5).
• The difficult desert is in the hot hill (8)
• where the bright and long rows of big fire which broke out in the dried low jungle (6)
• rages with a roaring noise (7),
• rising high above, (5)
• cracks in the mountains (7).
• Even on hearing the few words we uttered that we would cross that desert (8)
• having in our mind parting from this like the cool and fragrant blue nelumbo (நீலமலர்) (15)
• flower which blossoms by receiving showers of rain in the deep mountain pools situated in the broad rock in the slopes of kutirai (குதிரை) hill which has high peaks on which clouds traverse slowly (13).
• That hill belongs to piṭṭaṉ who has adorned himself with anklet, who possessses a sword which brings victory without ever missing its aim (11),
• who is the chief of the army of vāṉavaṉ (வானவன்- ceraṉ), who wages ruthless wars without any treachery (10),
• and who gives liberally exquisite jewels to people who depend upon of his munificence for their livelihood (11)
• On seeing her tears I beg in to suffer (16).

ஐய(8)! (நீ) செய்வினைப் பிரிதல் எண்ணி(1) வெம்மலையருஞ்சுரம் நீந்திச்(8) சேறும் என்ற சிறு சொற்கு இவட்குப்(9) பிட்டன்(12) குதிரைக் கவான்(13) சுனை(14) நீலம் போலக்(15) கண்பனி கலுழ்ந்தன(16); யான் நோகு(16); அடுக்கத்து ஆங்கண்(5) கூர்எரி(6) நெடுங்கொடி விடர்முகை முழங்கும்(7) வெம்மலை அருஞ்சுரம்(8).
