• at the fag end of the winter season when they emptied their water by torrential rains, (5)
• after thundering without interval, for the living beings on the earth to tremble with fear, (4)
• spreading themselves with sound as if they were climbing up the mountains with the weight of water (3),
• emitting lightning to rend asunder the sky as if they were winking their eyes; and growing dark as if they were sleeping, move on the heights of mountains touching the sky, in the early hours of the morning (7).
• At that time when the bushes are beautiful to look at, brilliant with fresh foliage (8)
• the stag with twisted horns and a white back (10)
• drinks the cool and fragrant water in the ponds, grazes the cynodon grass (அறுகம்புல்) (9)
• and stays with pleasure in the flourishing shade of blossomed (பிடவுமரம்) beday emitic nut in a side of the vast sandy stretch, with its beautiful female. The swarms of beautiful cochineals which have the colour of red wax crawl in every place as if they had been spread out and shine with beauty in the damp places where water had been flowing before (13-5).

Other editors have incorporated the reading "பருவமன்று in their text. Only Kaḻakam has given it as a variant; it has adopted the reading "பருவமன்' பருவம் அன்று is used ironically. I have translated as (பருவமன்று)
