• Companion who has love towards me (6)!
• As the scorching sun is at its zenith the white flowers of closed petals of mahua tree (இருப்பைமலர்கள்) whose leaves wave to and fro due to the fast blowing wind, drop and spreads on the rocks like the molucca beans, which have been turned in lathes from the tusks of elephants (7-9)
• In that forest our dear one has gone (10)
• (Therefore) my mind which reposed trust in him that he would not part from me, is now confused (14)
• like the place, kāmūr (காமூர்) of kaluvuḷ (கழுவுள்) (13)
• who has to his credit battles in which he killed his enemies (10),
• and a never dying great fame, a big eminent umbrella (11),
• which was sacked by the confederacy of fourteen petty chiefs (12)
• My beautiful (மாமை) complexion with yellow spots and my collective beauty resembling fresh leaves have been lost (1).
• Sallowness is spreading on my forehead like the new flowers of sponge gourd (பீர்க்கமலர்) common name பீர்க்கமலர்) a creeper which spreads on bushes (2-3).
• My cool and beautiful eyes coated with collyrium are weeping (4)
• As my sorrow is increasing my mind has undergone a change and I am in a state of bewilderment like ātimanti (ஆதிமந்தி.) (4-5)

தோழி(5)! காதலர் காடுஇறந்தனர்(10); (ஆகலின்) நெஞ்சு(14) காமூர் போலக்(13) கலங்கின்று(14); (அவர் இன்னும் வாராமையால்) வனப்பு அழுங்க(1) பசலை பாய்ந்த நுதலேன் ஆகி(3) மழைக்கண் கலுமநோய் கூர்ந்து(4) ஆதிமந்தியின் அறிவுபிறிது கிட்(5) பேதுற்றிசின்(6).

(Note. In line 9 கோடு has been taken by some to mean conch. But lines 6-7) of stanza 267, 331 of this anthology support the meaning of tusk.

Kaḻuvuḷ has been praised in this anthology; 315-11-2. Kaḻuvuḷ was chief of the shepherds, and he is mentioned in patiṟṟuppattu, stanzas 71: 13-17, & 88: 7-9.
