TRANSLATION
- Companion! May you live long! The common meeting places or assembly hall of this village
has become silent losing its bustle. The people in the houses are fast asleep (1)
- If midnight comes today to reign during its period with the cruelty like killing me,
my longing will increase and spread like the ocean and get out of control or transgress its limits (3-4)
- The ruler of the sylvan tract comes travelling by a mountainous path
which is as narrow as the deep impression on the back of an elephant caused by a rope (10-11)
- He adorns his head with the blue nelumbo (குவளைமலர்) flowers
growing in the small mountain pools, for the bees to hum loudly, (9)
- which are situated in the neighbouring hill, which is narrow,
and difficult to ascend and dark due to a thicket growing on it (8-11).
- In that path which has many deep pits in very narrow places difficult to travel,
where water flows as it is raining, (12-4)
- how is it that our good heart without consulting me and you, has gone today transgressing its limit,
to support his faltering feet seeing him place his feet in the darkness
upon those inaccessible paths, though we are in this confused state ?
