TRANSLATION
- (Charioteer) If the enemies came carrying ornaments of exquisite workmanship
and offered them as tribute along with male elephants and expressed their submissiueness
and spoke words accepting his suzerainty and requested him, `Please return to your country' (1-3),
- our king will quite definitely return to his capital today itself (5)
- along with the army assembled in large numbers for the marching of which
even this wide world has not enough paths (4-5)
- As the time limit set for our return is drawing near (13)
- you too (8)
- drive the (13)
- horses which have an eminent gait liked by expert driving hands, trimmed manes,
and a decorated saddle made of gold which glitters like wavy (9-10)
- lightning so that our lady-love who lies on a bed of many layers
in our famous mansion of several storeys and who is without any sulkiness,
may rejoice, war-camps at the battle-field (8)
- and to make the bees which enjoy the pollen in the flowers
of green creepers of arabian jasmine (முல்லைக்கொடி) fertility,
in the long way which is fragrant, due to them, to scatter pell-mell in all directions,
and I may reach in the evening the place which has high fortified bastions
with casemates intended for shooting arrows from within built in rows
where the sweet music produced by the shepherds who play upon the beautiful flute
in the evening can be heard in the expansive open terrace where people enjoy moonlight

NOTES
(Notes In the 4th line all other have adopted the readings வகுத்துறாஅ and வருத்துறாஅ.
But I have taken the word as வகுந்துறாஅ.
வகுந்து is a word that occurs in malaipaṭukaṭam (மலைபடுகடாம்), l.242
and later in cilappatikāram, ll-167, 15-17 Then it would mean that the army was so numerous
that even the wide world was insufficient for its movement.
This idea is found in kaliñkattupparaṇi stanza, 348.
The Murray & Co., edition has embodied the reading "வகுந்துறாஅ' after much discussion.
The same idea about horses is found in this anthology, stanza 104-5-6;
For the sound produced by beating the maracu by the evening guards.
