• Companion (23)!
• This old village of bustle which has liquor in plenty like rain does not go to sleep even if there is no festival (1-2)
• When the wealthy bazaar and other streets become silent, the foster-mother who speaks harsh and strong words does not sleep (2-3).
• If the another who is like a prison which fetters one's freedom with no way of escape, goes to sleep, the village-guards who are vigilant without sleep, go on their rounds very quickly and patrol the streets (5-6)
• Even if those young guards who hold a bright lance go to sleep, the street dog with sharp teeth and tails twisted clock-wise bark out of joy (7-8)
• If the noisy dogs are quiet without barking out of joy, the broad and circular moon shines brightly in the sky shedding its light resembling the brightness of daytime (9-10).
• If the moon sets in the mountain and dense darkness envelopes the village, the rock-horned owl which preys on house rats, and has a strong beak, screams at dead of night when devils begin to roam about, to frighten our hearts. (12-14)
• If the male of that owl which haunts hollows of trees is quiet without screaming, the fowl that is reared in the house crows showing its majestic voice (15-6)
• If everything is quiet on a certain day, the talaivar of irresolute mind does not come (17-8)
• Therefore, our secret love affair has many obstacles like the forest of defence outside uṟantai (உறந்தை-உறையூர்) encircling it, which has stones and has a fence of nocci (நொச்சி) shrubs, belonging to tittaṉ who has fine galloping horses, which run in a straight course with great speed, for their anklets of tinkling bells into which pebbles are put, to make a loud noise (18-23)

தோழி(23)! மூதூர்(1) துஞ்சாதாகும்(2); ஆவணம் மறுகுடன் மடியின்(3), அன்னைதுஞ்சாள்(4); அன்னைதுஞ்சின்(5), காவலர் கடுகுவர்(6); இளையர் துஞ்சின்(7), ஞாளிமகிழும்(8); ஞாளிமடியின்(9); மண்டிலம் விரியும்(11); திங்கள் மடியின்(12), கூகை(13) குழறும்(14); சேவல்மடியின்(15), கோழி குரல் இயம்பும்(16); எல்லாம் மடிந்தகாலை(17) அவர் வாரலர்(18); அதனால்(18); நம் களவு(23) தித்தன் உறந்தைப்(21) புறங்காட்டன்ன(22) பல் முட்டின்று(23).
