• The sun with many rays has passed the daytime gradually and has reached the mountain in the west (where it sets) (4-5)
• The flock of common cranes with greenish legs which prey on fish, (2-3)
• flies in rows high in the air, as if touching the sky which is red in colour (2)
• resembling the garland of pearl worn on the chest of vēḷ who is of tall stature (1).
• This lady (6)
• who has as an ornament of bashfulness in a large measure and very modest gentle nature (7)
• began weeping, with sobs, without stopping, so that her beautiful, self-conceiting and cool eyes became disturbed (6),
• and her superior beauty got spoiled (8).

• is there any harm if you stay with your young servants who have strong bows, relaxing yourself without returning to your place (12-13),
• in our country of big backwaters where small bunches of white indian water-lily (நெய்தல்) (16)
• grow where the aṉṟil (அன்றிற்பறவை) calls its mate to its side (15)
• in the extensive sandy tract having palmyra trees that grow tall? (14)
• Moreover the mule which was wounded in its leg by being attacked by shark (10)
• is weak and cannot go fast in the black backwaters which are very deep (11).

பெரும்(9)! பல்கதிர் ஞாயிறு கல்சோர்ந்தன்று(5); இவள் கலுழ(6) ஏங்கி ஆனாது(8) அழல் தொடங்கினள்; (அதனாலும்) (9), அத்திரி(10) பரி மெலிந்திடலாலும்(11), இளையரொடு எல்லிச் செல்லாது(12), அசைஇ(11), எம் பெருங்கழி நாட்டுச்(16) சேந்தனை செலின் சிதைகுவது உண்டோ(13)?
