TRANSLATION
- (Companion)! Though he (our talaivar) parted from us thinking that marriage is not the proper thing,
he considered well and knew that her forehead, shoulders, waist with yellow spots,
complexion beauty and red lines will fade (1-4)
- In the forest the way-farers cut the square-stalked vine (பிரண்டை)
and throw it without putting it to use. It lies on the way-side withered like the fresh pieces
of the snake which has been struck dead by thunder (4-7)
- That forest has ways on the mountain where clouds are trailing (20)
- In the dried-up pool on the mountain (19)
- the elephant fought with the ferocious tiger, suffered and had a cut on its head (by being split into two (16).
- With the sorrow born of that wound it hurriedly goes to drink water and places its knees firmly on the earth
by bending them and dips its trunk into the pool and heaves a sigh as there is no water (15-20)
- Without thinking (10)
- that the desert which has places where the maḻavar of strong bows cook flesh in the stone-ovens
which had ben abandoned by the caravan of salt-merchants, and eat it (8-9)
- is not fit for travel in the company of women (10).
- Will our talaivar of excessive zeal (10)
- decide to make us also travel as his company in the battle-field (14-5)
- where he goes with a lance only as his defence, in order to reduce enmity
between two contending parties (14-5)
- That lance has a beautiful shining blade resembling in form the flower of neytal (நெய்தல்) (11)
- a lance stick adorned with a garland made of peacock's feather (12),
- and a joint which has been driven into the strong female screw and a handle of black colour (13).
