TRANSLATION
- Friend (9)! The chief of the agricultural has got a ghat (துறை) (5)
- where the aged king-fisher which has lost its power of flight (4)
- is exhausted and comes slowly (3)
- and stays on the green leaf (3)
- which is fragrant (3),
- in order to catch and eat (3)
- the many small fish that jump and leap (2)
- and which can be compared to fried grains of paddy that burst and leap, (2)
- in the fields (2)
- which have lotus flowers comparable to flames of fire that has branches (1).
- People say that talaivi hates us and her husband (5-6).
- Though we did not do anything to incur her displeasure (6-7)
- we cannot remain long not being hurnt by her back-biting, so let us take a stroll
for a short while in the street in which she lives by swinging the arms to produce
sound by tight-fitting bangles so that she may beat against her stomach
in terror just like the centre of the drum which is rapped by the bard (பாணன்) who gets the flesh of male elephants (12)
