• The beautiful male of quail (4)
• which has a bright head, a pointed red tongue, and many small beautiful dots which appear as if they have been scattered (2-4),
• being afraid of the intended pouncing attack of the royal falcon in the extensive desert region (பாலை) which has no shade, (1-2)
• wishes to stay in a place of safety (4)
• and abandons the small dried small bush in which it was living, to become solitary (5).
• It stays in a part of the shade of sloping roof of the big house which has tall storeys and inhabitants had deserted in the small hamlet which has cows, and heaves a big sigh on account of its solitude (8-9)
• In that hamlet, in the old and big hall of assembly under the trees adjoining the hard ground the highway robbers lie in ambush fixing their looks on the way to plunder way-farers (5-6).
• Having crossed the difficult desert which has cruel war-fronts, our talaivar further proceeded, in his business of acquiring wealth, which came to him of its own accord (10-11)
• Will not our talaivar who is loved by us, (15)
• grant us at least (14-5)
• our beauty which put up with our sallowness in order to be counselling friend to whom one can unburden the bundle of sorrows, at midnight which has the onomatopeaic sound of `naḷ (நள்) (12)
• That beauty has now followed our talaivar of its own accord (13-4)
• (as he has proceeded further).

(தோழி)! நாம் நயந்திசினோர்(15), அருஞ்சுரம் நீந்தி(100), வினைமருங்கின் மீண்டோர் என(11) நம்மொடு பசலை நோன்று(13), தம்மொடு(13) தானே சென்ற நலனும்(14) நல்தார் கொல்லோ(15)?
எழாலேறு குறித்த(1) சேவல் ஏமம் சேப்பப்(4) போகிங் இறை நிழல் ஒருசிறைப் புலம்பு அயாஉயிர்க்கும்(9) அருஞ்சுரம்(10).
