• (Chief) Having smeared on your chest the sandal paste which was got by grinding the wood against a stone, and mixing in it other perfumes, (1)

• when the darkness which had been staying at night disappears at break of day (15-16)
• grazes the new flowers of white indian water lily (நெய்தற்பூ) (17),

• That noise can be compared to the noise made by the flock of cranes (14)
• which are new to the foreshore of puṟaiyāṟu (புறையாறு) which has a shore garden of mast-wood tree (13)
• with blossomed bunches (12)
• It belongs to periyaṉ (பெரியன்), a chief, who has a good chariot drawn by horses (12)
• and who attracts the wandering minstrels to surround him always by his liberal donations, (11)
• At that puṟaiyāṟu, the lights that drive away darkness, (7)
• have been fixed in the fishing boats put to the blue sea at night when it is surrounded by clouds (6)
• when the roar of big waves and their movement had stopped (5)
• by fishermen to catch a kind of fish known as koḻumīn, (7)
• appear like the bright light of the ornamental frontlets fixed in the beautiful face of the elephants (9)
• which are capable of killing enemies (10)
• and which are stationed in the war-camp of the king who has a resolute mind not to retrace from fight (8).

(தலைவி)! நீ(3) எல்லினில்(4) வந்து(3) பெயர்தல் எனக்கும் இனிது(4); (ஆயினும்) மீன் கொள்பவர்(7) இருங்கடல் மடுத்த(6) ஒண்சுடர்(7) வேந்தன் பாசறை(8) யானையின்(9) ஓடை ஒண்சுடர் ஒப்பத் தோன்றும்(10) பெரியன்(12) புறந்தை முன்துறை(13) நாரைஇனன் ஒலித்தன்ன(14) அம்பல்(15) எம் அழுங்கல் ஊர்(18) வாய்த்தன(15).
