TRANSLATION
- Our good-natured talaivaṉ came at night
and removed our sorrow which made us tremble, (7)
- seeing the way with the help of the light of the fire
that was lit by the forest-dweller of strong hands,
who keeps watch over the millet farm on his elevated platform (5-6)
- anticipating arrival of the young wild pigs
which approach the field after listening with keen attention
to the sound produced by the lizard with splitting mouth, (3)
- in an auspicious place (2-3),
- in order to eat the big ears
of luxurious red millet
(செந்தினை)
which grew tall and got bent by the weight of the grains (2)
- which grew abundantly in the old forest tract
of high level ground under cultivation (1).

- which is not fit for travelling, (15)
- which has ant-hills on which the marks
of the bear of bended fingers, (14)
- which crowd in large numbers
and dig them for their food
