• The young attendants who are well versed in warfare (2)
• are jubilant with the pride of having crowned their deeds with success (1)
• and are praising the strenuous efforts of talaivaṉ (1-2).
• In the season when the clouds pour heavily cool rains (3)
• and there is greeness everywhere (3)
• the bright red cochineals which resemble blood in colour (4)
• spread in every highway in small rows (5).
• The many fresh and beautiful flowers of green arabian jasmine (முல்லை) creepers which are in a soft and fresh state (6)
• spread themselves in the wavy sand of the white saline soil (7)
• and the bees open the buds in an advanced stage in the cool and fragrant forest (8).
• (In that place) our talaivar everytime he sees the timid and frightened (10)
• looks of the beautiful young deer of the stag with black horns (9),
• he will remember you (10).
• He will say to the charioteer, "Charioteer', drive the strong chariot still faster' and driving it fast (11),
• will arrive today itself (12)
• (Companion!) you console and encourage me by so many kind words saying, "Let us stop shivering (12).
• I shall be encouraged by your words which you say many times (13)
• and be without distress, assured by them (14)
• if the small flutes which have strong holes (17)
• and which are played by the cowherds (16)
• who do not know any other work than their own (16)
• and who have sticks that inflict pain on cows (15),
• do not make me suffer (17)

• in combination with the evenings which brings distress with it. But I am unable to do so (14-17)

(தோழி)! அல்கல்(14) மாலையொடு பொருந்திக்(15) கோவலர் ஊதும்(16) குழல் வருத்தாக் கால்(17) (தலைவர்) "புறவில்(18) இரலை மடப்பிணை(9) நோக்கம் காண் தொறும் நின் நினைந்து(10) திண்தேர் கடைஇ(11), இன்றே வருவர்; ஆன்றிகம் பனி! என(12) வன்புறை பயிற்றும்(13) நிவைலித்து அமைகுவென் மன்னோ(14)!
