TRANSLATION
- Companion! May you live long (11)
- The girls of Kuṟavar
(குறவர்) community
who wished to pluck the new golden flowers
in the very high branches of the emerging
east indian kino-tree which grow to a great height
in the adjoining hills where trees grow tall,
and which have creepers encircling them,
uttered frequently in an uproarious manner the word `puli, puli',
which was a misfortunate sound.
- (1-4) On hearing that sound the forest dwellers
mistook that as indicating the call for help
to save them from a strong tiger which used to carry away cows
in the adjoining hill which has a dark cave
and rows of high rocks, and came out with bows in their left hands,
the little village which is adjacent
to their mountain to become solitary, and went out with great noise.
Our talaivaṟ is chief of that country (5-8).
- We were in a dilemna in our mind
whether to inform the mother that the cause of the disease
was the broad chest of our talaivaṉ
which has appropriated to itself our heart, as it abode, or not (9-12)
- We have come to a decision.
Even if life departs from the body
do not tell mother, explicitly,
"The sallowness that has spread in the eyes of your daughter
which are coated with collyrium
and resemble beautiful flowers,
is due to the distress
of longing (காமம்)
