TRANSLATION
- In the desert there is no movement of people;
as the sun's rays are scorching,
excessive heat spreads everywhere (1-2)
- In the tall and ugly-looking branch
of the yā (யா) tree
of long trunk through which the wind blows
rushing fast with a loud sound, as if it is splitting it (2-3).
- In that branch the male kite
(எருவை)
which has red ears which resemble pieces
of flesh fixed in its body, and strikes fear,
on seeing the face of its female
which is perched on that branch
and desirous of flesh leaves it,
gets its wings burnt and charned by the intense heat
of the summer in the extensive forest
which has tall bamboos (4-7)
- My glorious mind! (14)
- If you can acquire wealth
which you can do only with great suffering
and strenous effort, by parting from the talaivi
who has the complexion of māmai
(மாமை),
and eyes as cool as a flower (8-10),
- try to forget parting from her (14).
- Without parting, think of making
our talaivi perform cheerfully household duties daily, (12-14)
- Let the expanse of her rising breasts
which are not separated from each other,
swell in size and let her embrace (me) many times (11-12)
- in order to make her red ornaments produce a sweet sound (12)
