TRANSLATION
- "My daughter is very fond of her parrot,
ball and molucca beans (கழங்கு)
(and never leaves them to slip from her hands). (1)
- She does not resemble her former self
in respect of grace, love, tenderness
and actions, and she is changed.
Let my life leave my body'. (2-3)
- So saying, I saw the back of my daughter
like the cow that looks at its calf
many times in quick succession,
which has a bending thigh tied to the tree (4-5)
- along with its mother. I came near her and softly rubbed
her semicircular forehead and slightly embraced her.
My daughter embraced me tightly several times
when her breasts in her perspired chest. Alas!
It has gone (6-9)
- If I had an inkling (13)
- that she would be enticed
into crossing the desert by the person of great worth and valour,
by praising her in several ways, (10)
- and staying
in the dried up shade of trees (11)
- in the forest (13)
- where the herds of young deer which disliked the clouds
and were weary, taste the shrunk bow-string
hemp plant (மரல்) (11-12),
- I would have followed her (18)
- like her shadow (15)
- in the house (14)
- of her father (13)
- which has abundant food that can stay for a long time,
and is severely guarded, (14)
- wherever she went, (15)
- and in all places (18)
- wherever she would spend her time
with her circle of playmates wearing garlands, (16)

- when the anklets
into which a cluster of pieces of metal ()
has been put to make them tinkle,
would produce a pleasant sound. (17)
